Recommended Raw Food Books

The following is a list of my most recommended raw food books, to get you started off on the right foot and food. I’m a total bookworm so it gives me great pleasure to share with you my favorite books on nutrition, raw food, and alternative medicine.


Raw Food/Real World: 100 Recipes to Get the Glow
This is a fabulous raw food book by authors Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis, head chefs and co-owners of Pure Food and Wine. Take raw food to a gourmet level in this beautifully photographed book. The recipes range from simple to blend in a hurry, to over the top deliciously gourmet eats that even your cooked food friends will drool over.


The Raw Food Detox Diet: The Five-Step Plan for Vibrant Health and Maximum Weight Loss
This is a great first book if you’re looking to switch to a raw food lifestyle or just slim down in a healthy yummy way. Natalia Rose provides great ways to transition with delicious recipes and a comprehensive understanding of nutritional healing. This is the first book I read about raw food, and I still lovingly refer to it when I need a little jolt of inspiration. If you’ve tried a lot of gourmet raw food recipes and books that didn’t quite deliver the results you were looking for, this book will change the way you see raw food.

Raw Fusion

You know the thing that most people comment on about my approach to raw food? That I’m not pushy when it comes to being 100% raw. That I think there’s room for a little healthy cooked food and that I believe everyone can eat more fresh fruits and veggies no matter where they’re coming from…

If you’re looking for a comprehensive raw food beginner’s guide, Ani is your gal and she’s got a great way of delivering ideas and recipes.


Raw Food: A Complete Guide for Every Meal of the Day
Erica Palmcrantz and Irmela Lilja make eating raw foods simple, inexpensive, and delicious. Learn how to soak and sprout vegetables and nuts to increase the nutritional value, what types of kitchen tools are best for preparing raw food, and which foods to have on-hand for use in raw recipes.


Everyday Raw
This book is simple, straightforward, and easy to use. Matthew Kenney gives us a wealth of recipes that utilize fresh, healthy, local, and organic food. A lot of raw food books can be overwhelming, but Matthew is able to put together delicious tasting recipes that are doable on a regular basis. I love it.


Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen: Easy, Delectable Living Foods Recipes
A beautiful raw book, filled with amazing recipes and Ani’s tidbits on how we can make this world a better place. I like to recommend this book if you’re looking for something to show to friends and family, or leave on your coffee table to inspire your guests.


Raw Food Cleanse: Restore Health and Lose Weight by Eating Delicious, All-Natural Foods – Instead of Starving Yourself
Raw Food Cleanse offers four customized plans that provide you with everything needed for an easy and powerful detox. Penni is a great example of someone who lives in a cooked food world and makes her raw food stance work for her and her tribe. There are several options in this book, so check it out to see if it’s right for you.


12 Steps to Raw Foods: How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food
This book contains self-tests and questionnaires that help the reader to determine if they have hidden eating patterns that undermine their health. Victoria Boutenko explores the most significant physical, psychological, and spiritual phases of the transition from cooked to raw foods. Great for all of us recovering junk-food addicts, and also speaks to the deeper stuff that we can all benefit from exploring more thoroughly.


Ani’s Raw Food Desserts: 85 Easy, Delectable Sweets and Treats
You can have your cake and eat it too with Ani Phyo’s delicious desserts. Easy to make and full of nutrition! This is the cutest little raw food book on desserts out there. If you’ve got a sweet tooth like me, you’ll want to pick this book up and eat it. Err… I mean, make the desserts in it and eat those. ;)


Living Raw Food: Get the Glow with More Recipes from Pure Food and Wine
With recipes inspired by the New York City restaurant Pure Food and Wine, where Sarma Melngailis is a partner and executive chef, this cookbook runs the range from quick and easy to exotically delicious gourmet! As always, Sarma delivers a feast for the eyes and the palate and I just love the information and the way it is presented in the most welcoming way.


Raw for Dessert: Easy Delights for Everyone
Raw for Desserts has a huge variety of all season desserts, that even a non vegan will love and so easy to make! Jennifer Cornbleet also really sets you up with the ingredients and tools you need to set forth into the joy of making raw desserts. I love Jennifer’s simple approach to raw foods, and I highly recommend this one for anyone with a sweet tooth like me.


Becoming Raw: The Essential Guide to Raw Vegan Diets
Nutrition experts Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina provide the essential information needed to safely embrace a raw foods lifestyle. Food historian Rynn Berry’s also presents the first narrative history of the rawfoods movement in the United States. Enjoy over 45 recipes, their nutritional content and information packed gem for the raw foods movement.


Raw Food for Everyone: Essential Techniques and 300 Simple-to-Sophisticated Recipes
Alissa Cohen provides detailed step-by-step instructions, charts on sprouting and soaking, thorough information on raw ingredients, and 300 unique recipes for meals and snacks. A classic to have in your raw cooking library. Alissa was one of my earliest raw food influences and I still love and respect all of her work and highly recommend her work.


The Live Food Factor: The Comprehensive Guide to the Ultimate Diet for Body, Mind, Spirit & Planet
This is a comprehensive and complete book not only on the raw food life style but on the importance of health and healing through what we put into our bodies. An incredible resource for optimal health. If you’re looking for really in depth information, this is for you.


Green Smoothie Revolution: The Radical Leap Towards Natural Health
I sure know green smoothies have revolutionized my world. Find out why and the art of making green smoothies with 200 recipes in this green gem. This book makes a great gift to people who have no intention of ever going raw, because it’s focused on the one thing everyone can add to their diet: green smoothies!


Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine
This cookbook shares 250 delicious vegan recipes from chefs at the Tree of Life Cafe. Holistic physician Gabriel Cousens provides a dietary regimen that can reverse chronic disease and bring back health and vitality. Highly recommended for anyone with heart conditions or diabetes for educational purposes.


Sweet Gratitude: A New World of Raw Desserts
Sweet Gratitude is a cookbook with a message: raw desserts aren’t only healthier for both people and the planet, they can also be every bit as incredibly delicious as their mainstream counterparts. Based on the desserts served at San Francisco’s Cafe Gratitude restaurant, these desserts are off the charts – my favorites.


Ani’s Raw Food Asia: Easy East-West Fusion Recipes the Raw Food Way
An Asian raw food cookbook full of recipes from Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, and Hawaii! Ani Phyo also includes essential tips on longevity, fitness, and beauty as inspired by a healthy Asian lifestyle. As you know, I love the Asian cultures and I just think that it’s awesome to be able to draw from different historical wisdom from around the world.


The Raw Gourmet
A beautiful all purpose raw cookbook. Nomi Shannon includes “Ten Raw Food Kitchen Essentials,” a sprouting chart, information about food combining, a 3-week menu plan, and so much more! This book is a classic, and it’s not going out of style anytime soon. Highly recommended.

Juicing Books

Juicing can help you lose weight, overcome fatigue, reduce your risk of many serious diseases, and relieve scores of common ailments. This is a great guide for beginners and avid juicers. I’ve spoken with Jay Kordich and his wife Linda on several occasions, and the energy they exude is contagious… I have no doubt it’s due to their juicing habits!


The Juice Lady’s Guide To Juicing for Health: Unleashing the Healing Power of Whole Fruits and VegetablesRevised Edition
